Tips on Finding Your Personal Style

Hi everyone! Today I thought I should post something like this because I really want girls out there to show off their own style and not something straight from a magazine!

Picture a world where every girl that you walked past had her own way of dressing. Sure, maybe you'd see a few people who were both wearing flannels or skater skirts, but each girl had different patterns or shoes that really showed off her personality type. That world is a dream that, with a little hard work, could become a reality.

Here are a few tips to finding your style, if you don't have one already :)

  1. Go shopping! Or maybe just look around! I would go with a very close friend. Make sure you have a lot of time on your hands!!!
Choose a store! You want to choose a store that doesn't sell any mainstream brands, such as Target (that way, it's less expensive on your mom, and you can experiment more, so you know what you want once you shop the mainstream brands!).

Go on a clothing scavenger hunt! Think of the store like your own personal closet. A very clean and organized personal closet. Don't base everything you try on by it's price. This is your time to find your personal style. Sure, what you love might cost more than what you already have in your pocket, so you might just have to wait a few weeks before you can buy it.

Find different clothes that make you think omgIwouldtotallywearthat! You can have a friend help you, but make sure that she's not choosing what she would wear. You are you, remember?

Try on the clothes in the dressing room. Here are some things you might want to ask yourself/look for:
  • Does a certain color look great on you? You've just found your signature color! If you want to look A-MAZING in an outfit, add one touch, or a lot of, your color. But that doesn't mean you have to use it every day!
  • Can you work a hat into your outfit? Many people can't, but if you can, you've definitely got a bright future for your style :-)
  •  Are there any shoes that look good with your outfits? There are millions of different styles of shoes out there, and if you can find ones that you can show-off, you're headed down the right track (whether it's a pair of pink high-top converse or brown combat boots!).
  • Do you prefer matching or mismatching patterns? This plays a big role in your style. And I suggest you experiment with both and see which looks best on you.

      2. Experiment with the clothes in your own closet! You'll be surprised what you can find!

Mix and match! Who knows? Maybe that black tank top looks awesome with a flannel shirt unbuttoned like a blazer!
Add more accessories! Sometimes a boring old outfit can instantly pop! If you add a scarf or a necklace.
Use different shoes. Maybe those brown, UGG-type boots you abandoned a year ago might look better than those sneakers you wear every day. Or maybe not!

     3. Don't care about what other people think! Those people want a world where everybody dresses a certain way and acts a certain way. They want everybody to be like robots, all the same. So why should you listen to what they have to say, only if it goes against who you are?
  • Shrug it off. Whenever somebody teases you about the way you dress, tell them (or just tell yourself), "Whatever! I like it! That's what matters!" If you keep on telling yourself this, soon, teasing won't phase you!
  • Get a confidence boost. If you're feeling down about yourself, talk to a really close friend who cares about you. You'll feel much better!
  • Keep being yourself. If you stop being yourself, those bullies are getting what they want-control over you. If you completely ignore their insults, they'll get mad because you can't let them control you.

I hope these tips will lead you down the right track to your own style!

See ya around!

xoxo,

Kiley
